JEREMY OHANIS- BENTON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

Tell us about yourself?
My name is Jeremy Ohanis. I'm 17 and I'm a junior at Benton Central High School in Oxford, IN. I like to play football and basketball, but basketball is my favorite. I'm about 6'2 and I work very hard. I like to play sports all the time and just hang out with friends.

What drives you to work so hard?
Growing up, I was never as talented as anyone else. I never made a basketball team, always got cut. Going into my freshmen year, I decided I was tired of it. Every single day, 6 hours a day, I played ball. I worked so hard. I went from where I couldn't even make a layup to where I could hit 3's. At this point, my game has increased more then I ever thought it would.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Sports are my life. That's all I love to do. I love the competiive edge and I just love to compete all around. Education plays a big factor. It makes me more intelligent which shows on the courts. It has helped with my decision making.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
Everything. I can continue to hit the gym to get stronger, quicker, and more versatile. I can keep playing ball as much as I can, and continue to work on my skills. I won't stop working hard. I plan on next year, my senior year, to be my year that I will blow up.

What is your dream college?
I would love to attend University of Louisville but I want to play ball in college, so I would settle for any college that would have me. I want to continue to play the game. Wherever I can play, i'll attend.

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
I can bring more than just talent and skill to the team. I bring a hard work ethic, and a desire to win that you can't improve upon. You're either born with that desire or you're not, and I happen to have been born with it. I refuse to lose, and i'll do whatever I need to help my team win. I'm a good leader, and I watch out for my team.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
Never stop working hard. Keep your grades up because without them you can't play. Do what you have to so you can improve yourself. If you can only get to a court at 6 am, get there. If you have to walk a mile to play, then tie up your shoes and get there. If you truly love your game then you'll do what you need to do.

SHAWN MOSKWA- MACARTHUR HIGH SCHOOL

Tell us about yourself?
I'm 15, play varsity football as a sophmore at Macrthur High School, and I've been playing the game since 7th grade. My former position was leading at RT, but just recently I've been swapped to defense, playing DE. I'm 6'0, 180 lbs, benching 225 and my 40 time was 4.8

What was your best game?
Freshman game against Madison, by halftime i had 5 sacks and 18 tackles. It was 4th quarter, 24-21, macarthur was up with about a minute and a half left in the game. 3rd and 7, Madison was on our 15 yard line, and coach called a timeout. We got in out huddle and our defensive coordinator/ RB coach, Coach Starnes, gave us a a pep talk. He told us this was it, this was the time where you NEED to step up, where you need to prove your as good as the rest, or better. The hype was intense, and after the pep talk we made our way on the field, and the next play i got an interception to wrap up a win for us.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Sports, football in particular, is what keeps me going. Its my past time, its my main action, my hobby, my everything. This is the only sport/thing that makes me happy, I wouldn't give this up for anything in the world. Education is important because that's what gets you far in life. No great college is going to recruit a superstar that can't even keep up with his grades.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
I want to learn to teach myself a little more self-discipline. Some more motive, something to drive me to succeed, something to look forward to. Ive always had a little problem with that.

What is your dream college?
University of Texas at Austin. It's where I've always wanted to be, and always will want to be.

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
I could make our team better by being a positive influence, someone to pick up a teammate when they're down no matter who you are or what the case.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
It's all about the education. It's all about the classes. Trust me.

MICHAEL VAUBEL- WAYLAND ACADEMY

Tell us about yourself?
My name is Michael Vaubel and I am a sophomore at Wayland Academy. I live in Wisconsin. I love to play golf and I have been playing it since I was three years old. My dad would always take me out to play and since then I have loved the game. My passion for the game has never faded and someday I hope to continue my golfing career at the college level.

What was your best game/score?
The best round of golf I played was not my best score, but the toughest. It was at sectionals last spring at Rock River Country Club and the conditions were windy. There was about 20 mph of wind and I ended up shooting 79 to finish at 3rd place and earn a spot as an individual to advance to state. It was the best round because at the time it was the biggest tournament that I had played in until I went to state.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Education is so important because people cannot take that away from you. You will always have your education even if you are injured and cannot continue your sports career. You need a fall back plan and having a solid education is crucial.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
There is no doubt that I can hit the ball far. The key for me is keeping it in the fairway and so that is what can make or break my round. That is something that even the tour pros have trouble with, but I also need to gain more consistency from 30-90 yards out where you can do most of your scoring.

What is your dream college?
Oh man I have known this for a long time. I would like to play golf at Northwestern University.

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
I get along with people very easily and would be willing to help him out with whatever he needs. I feel that I can bring a solid and confident game to the college level, and hopefully bring success to the golf program.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
I would say take advantage of this opportunity and try to make the most of what you love to do. If you perform well on the field and in the classroom you can go far.

BRANDON PURVIS- HERITAGE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Tell us about yourself?
I'm a Sophomore at Heritage Christian School in Kissimmee Florida. I play right defensive tackle. I'm 6"8 and weigh 235 pounds. I've been playing varsity football since eighth grade.

What was your best game?
I don't think I can pick any single game as my best because I give 100% at every game. Sure, I have good days and bad days, but it's really hard to pick one game.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Sports and education are important to me because they prepare me for the rest of my life.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
I think the biggest thing I can do at this point is listen to my coaches and people that have more experience than me at football. Improving my strength and speed also couldn't hurt as you can always get better in those areas.

What is your dream college?
After having visited and doing some research on it, Charleston Southern University is my number one choice.

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
I'm REALLY big. I can play offensive and defensive tackles and tight end. I'm a very hard worker and a good influence.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
Always give 100% because you play like you practice, and focus in class (it's important:).

RODNEY TAYLOR- RIDGEWAY HIGH SCHOOL

Tell us about yourself?
My name is Rodney Taylor. I attend Ridgeway High School and my GPA. is a 3.2. I've been playing basketball all my life and will continue until my dieing days. I am a freshman with the mind state of a senior. People say I look and play like Derrick Rose but I think other wise. My team is 5-2 (5 wins 2 losses).

What was your best game?
I think my best game was during the summer when I played for the Memphis Magic. It was 3 sec. left on the clock and we were down by 2. My teammate took the ball out and passed it to me. As time fell off the clock, I jumped from the halfcourt throwing the ball towards the rim and scored the game winning basket.(93-92)

Why are sports/education important to you?
I grew up on sports. People say that their lover or their best friends are their other half. Well my story is different. Basketball is my other half. My dad walked out of my life when I was 2 years old. I'm dedicated to getting a scholarship from a D1 or D2 college.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
Take out more time practicing on my jumpshots and agility.

What is your dream college?
Duke or the University of Memphis

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
My courage and confidence as a player. The way I make my team better is helping them and giving them pointers on their game. All consideration is good consideration.

Work your hardest because you will never know who's watching

CAMERON WALTON- COROVA HIGH SCHOOL

Tell us about yourself?
I am a 15 year old student athlete that runs track and cross country. I attend Cordova High School in Memphis, Tennessee. I take my sport and school work very seriously as I focus on being an honor student in class and excelling on the track as well. Besides running, I also love playing football and basketball. This year, I stopped playing football for the school so that I can get better at track.

What was your best race?
My best track race was last year at the Freshman/JV Invitationals at Houston High School. I ran a 2:15 in the 800m and a 4:59 in the 1600m. My best cross country time was a 17:54 at the Jesse Owens Classic in Oakville, Alabama.

Why are sports/education important to you?
An education is the important thing that a person can have, epically to an athlete. There are thousand of amazing athletes out there that won't make it to the collegiate level just because their grades aren't high enough. That's why I make good decisions and do my best both at in school and outside; Every action you make can affect you in a big way.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
It's the extra things that you do that makes you stand out. I work hard on my own out of practice and in the off-season to give me that edge over others that just do what's required. Being mentally tough makes you serious competitor. In my opinion, toughness outweighs skill.

What is your dream college?
As of right now, I have no idea of where I want to go to college. In my Junior year, I will start visiting campuses to find a place that fits me. I'm hoping to get a scholarship, so I will probably go to a school that is most interested in me.

If a College Coach ask you, how can you make our team better, what would you say?
I can make the team better with my leadership. I lead by example and I think I can help others without even saying a word. With good leadership skills, comes good following skills. No matter how good you are, you can always learn something new and improve yourself.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
Handle your business in the classroom first. Keep your skills sharp and take advantage of every opportunity you get.
