Blake Hirsch chooses the University of Houston

SoSportz Athlete Blake Hirsch will play football at the University of Houston.  Blake had a great career playing running back at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas but fullback will be his position for the Cougars once he steps on the field in the fall. He's a highly motivated and physical player that's excited to compete for playing time.

Houston Texans Running Backs Arian Foster & Ben Tate are the best duo in the NFL

SoSportz.com- The dynamic duo of Arian Foster and Ben Tate have started the season strong.  In two games, Foster has 189 yards on 54 carries with 2 touchdowns and Tate has tallied 80 yards on 17 carries scoring 2 touchdowns.  The two have very distinct differences in their game but are very productive. Foster is the smoother of the two.  He looks like he's gliding when he runs the football. He has deceptive speed and can take it the distance on any given play.  Tate is more of a rugged runner who can run through you or around you. They are both confident and compliment each other very well. The Houston Texans have the luxury of having two Pro Bowl caliber running backs in the backfield and if they continue their play, I can see the Texans having two 1,000 yards rushers this year.  The Super Bowl is looking more realistic each week for the reigning AFC South champions.

Is Cam Newton the real deal?

Cam Newton is a perfect fit in the NFL.
SoSportz.com- Week in and week out Cam Newton's performance has been filled with highlights. He's throwing the ball long to Steve Smith, he's running the ball like a running back, and his elusiveness has been out of this world. There were so many people doubting him before he came to the NFL because of his off the field issues and concerns about his ability to play in a pro-style offense. He has shut all the doubters up and is having a sensational year. Even though the Carolina Panthers have a 2-6 record, they have to be happy with the play of their quarterback and the future of the organization with Newton leading them. They are in a tough conference in the NFC South with teams like the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The season is at the halfway mark and Newton will continue to play great football. In a few years, the Panthers will be a team everyone is talking about.

Adrian Peterson signs biggest deal ever for a running back

Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings

SoSportz.com- The biggest deal ever given to a running back was awarded to Adrian Peterson today. The terms were a seven-year $100 million contract with $36 million guaranteed. The deal was $6 million more than Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. With his running style and the decline of play of running backs once they reach the age of 30, it will be tough for Peterson to play out his contract for he will be 33 years old by the end of his deal. He has definitely earned it and will consistently be one of the top backs in the NFL for years to come.

CONNOR HARRIS- CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SCHOOL

Tell everyone about yourself?
My name is Connor Harris, I am an Freshman at Christian Brothers High School (Memphis, TN) class of 2014. The positions I play are: Running back, Kick Return, and Corner back. Out of the three, I personally enjoy KR & RB most.

What was your best game?
In my opinion my best game came against Whitehaven High School's 9th grade freshman team. During the game, our first drive, my first carry, I scored from 48 yards. Even though I was pulled from the game before halftime, in the first half I had achieved: 3 touches, 74 total yards and 1 touchdown.

Who is the best player you have played against?
The best player I have ever played against: hmm, that's a good one. I cannot really give a great answer because I'm on the Freshman team, not yet experienced Varsity, but I can say the best TEAM I have ever played against was Memphis University School. They are widely heard of, after defeating South Panola in 2009 21-19.

How do you make your team better?
I try to make my team better by being wherever the coach needs me. I was a team captain and consider myself to be a positive role model for all the athletes surrounding me. Sometimes being strict, or assertive is what it takes to get the job done.

Who is your favorite player?
My Favorite football player is Lamichael James. I say Lamichael, because of the many similarities that we both have in our styles of play. I enjoy seeing him do jump cuts, jukes, spins, and many other types of moves. By watching him, I see that I can also pick up a few moves by observing.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Sports and education are both equally important to me because they go hand-in-hand. Without education, sports is not possible, and in parallel, without sports, you could be missing out on the opportunities of colleges being able to pay for your college career.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
To other student athletes looking on: What I have done that has made me successful is my WORK ETHIC and my DESIRE TO SUCCEED. Equipped with both, how could you go wrong?

I come from an athletic family. My dad, Randy Brooks, played and started at the University of Kentucky from 1976-80 in football. He was a member of the 1976 peach bowl team and the 1977 10-1 team that went undefeated in the SEC. I have two cousins that currently play in the NFL. I have a cousin named Jordan Pugh, who is a rookie safety for the Carolina panthers and Montavious Stanley who is a five-year NFL veteran Defensive Tackle for the Miami Dolphins. Last, but not least, my Uncle Jimmie Brooks was the all-time leading rusher at Eastern Kentucky University and played for the San Francisco 49ers. In track, I run the 100, 200 and 4 by 100 meter relay. I run 11.0 100 meter dash and 22.9 200 meter dash. I was a state participant in the 100 meter dash and the 4 by 100 meter relay this past year. What are your dreams in life?
My dreams in life are to play college and pro football and get a college degree in education.

What was your best game?
My best game was last year in 2009 against Dunbar high school when I rushed for 111 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. My Team won 47-0.

Why are sports/education important to you?
Sports are important to me because I have been playing them since I was six and have enjoyed it. I meet lots of new people through sports and love the competitiveness that comes with it. I love working with others to make the team better. Education is important to me because it’s one thing that's going to take me far in life. It’s always known as a back-up plan if anybody doesn’t make it in sports. I love history, so I hope to become a history teacher one day. On the academic end, I have 3.5 GPA and nine college credit hours already as a current high school senior. I've completed English 101 and 102. My Act score is a 20.

What can you do to make yourself better in your sport?
I can get better by continuing to work on my weaknesses and flaws. I also can also continue to watch film and learn to correct my mistakes from certain games and listening to my family members that have played at the college level or pro because they know what it takes to get there.

How do you make your team better?
I make my team better by leading by example vocally and non-vocally. I encourage the young players and new starters to pay attention, watch film, get reps, work hard, and listen to coaches. I encourage my teammates to be leaders on and off the field.

What advice can you give other student-athletes?
My advice to other student-athletes is work on your weaknesses on the field and in the classroom. Also my advice most importantly is to have fun playing sports and enjoy life.
